My mother just came back from Singapore and my thoughtful brother had few things sent over.
While I love Typo, I also like another stationary store which I wish will open in Manila, kikki.K. The place has a lot of quirky finds, and it’s a bit sad one can’t take photos of anything in the store. My brother, knowing well my writing obsession, sent me these pocket-sized (ish!) notebooks.
When I was a kid I remember constantly having throat problems. I had all the -itis already, laryngitis, bronchitis, tonsillitis. I recalled that one “Hey Arnold!” episode when Gerald had to have his tonsils removed, and the doctor said he could have all the ice cream he wants. I thought to myself “Maybe if I will have my tonsils removed, I can get as much ice cream I want.” Never had my tonsils removed, but I still always crave for the cold sweet dessert. Ice cream has always been my main comfort food ever since I was a kid. There’s something about it that could instantly make me happy. When I found out that there’s a new ice cream place in town, I just knew I had to go and try it out.
Farmacy, from what I have gathered, is a concept brought by the Wild Flour group. It’s an “ice cream and soda fountain” shop, meaning it’s not all about ice cream and milkshakes, but also sodas, alcohol-infused floats, among others As much as I’d like to say that the place recreates ice cream parlors back in the day, well, I never saw one, too young to have reached that era. But the interiors are really nice. It does have a “[ph]armacy” feel with its vintage medicine cabinet, and signage here and there. Random thought: I wish they devoted some space instead under the “Prescriptions” for their menu. It makes more sense. It’s more in-line with their theme. I think.

This morning, I accompanied Candy Magazine’s shoot for their May and June issues. I can’t disclose who will be in the magazine, but I’m grateful that the one behind the camera was Kara Chung. We both went to Ateneo, and we graduated with the same course. She’s sought-after photographer in school. I remember different organizations would approach her to cover events and do shoots. It’s also no surprise that different groups outside university get her. She’s really talented!
Gong Xi Fa Cai! Kung Hei Fat Choi! Kiong Hee Huat Tsai! Happy Chinese New Year!
While my mother is in Singapore with my dihia, my kuya and I are left here in Manila, bored. Set on making the most out of this Thursday holiday, I decided to go to Chinatown aka Binondo despite the grey clouds this morning. I woke up early and studied the many ways to commute to Binondo (since it’s only my second time), before heading off. The MRT/LRT were pretty spacious and after about 20-minutes worth of travel, I was finally in front of the ‘Arch of Goodwill’.
