While I have noticed that peers and tourists gravitate towards the murals in Haji Lane when in the Kampong Glam area, I have not really seen anyone slow down and enjoy a cup and meal in Artistry.
Hard to miss as it’s located just along Jalan Pinang, the cafe proves to be an intersecting point for coffee enthusiasts, creative minds and foodies. Artistry is a space which celebrates emerging talents allowing their quaint space to be filled with pieces of different artists, giving them exposure to locals, travellers and tourists. One of the things I enjoy doing when I go to Singapore is to do a “coffeeshop hop”. What does that mean, exactly? Simply, explore the coffee scene in the city. It was also a good exercise on getting my shutterbug mode on, which I have been missing so much. It’s been a while since I last took out my camera for a spin.
I went to Singapore recently (January 18 to 23), and I was able to go to several coffee shops while I was there. Most of them, I was able to document, but there were some instances when I’d just take a cup for takeaway. The first one I went to was all the way in Holland Village–d’Good Cafe.
Situated just a few steps away from the Holland Village MRT station exit, d’Good Cafe is a bit hidden if you don’t keep an eye out on the coffeeshop. How would you know if you’ve finally found it? Simple: just look for the narrow door, with the equally narrow stairs.

When I was in High School, and in Freshman Year of college, I was pretty fit. Not necessarily in shape, but I had quite an endurance. I distinctly remember being able to go distances without breathing so heavily, and without having to take breaks. That was 6 years ago. Yikes!
Ever since Sophomore Year, I had gotten busy and the time I usually devoted to evening runs have turned to sleepless nights, or deep slumbers. I know, not the best excuse. When I went on my Junior Term Abroad, I got to do evening walks. I didn’t think of bringing rubber shoes back then, but how I wish I did!
Senior year came, and I started entering the workforce, and I completely disregarded the whole idea of physical fitness. It wasn’t until last month when I decided to get back on track. I had to start somewhere, and the perfect motivation for me was that I get to buy myself a new pair of shoes [should I want to get into the fitness bandwagon]. And, I did!
